Suicide attempt at congress hotel
A tragic moment with a fortunate outcome – thanks to the courageous intervention of an employee! A few days ago, we received shocking news: At one of the properties we supervise, a young woman had gone onto the flat roof – with the intention of ending her life. The situation was quickly noticed, unrest spread, people were rushing around anxiously, and the noise level was overwhelming.
One of our security employees, who was on duty at the time and wishes to remain anonymous, kept a cool head. In a calm voice, he addressed the 25-year-old woman from about ten meters away – she was bleeding from both arms, apparently having previously tried to injure her wrists. He calmed her, seemingly found the right words – and slowly approached her, step by step, with the sole goal of saving her life. Eventually, he was close enough to reach her – she willingly fell into his arms.
Whether she secretly hoped that someone would stop her, or whether it was just the moment – we don’t know. But the relief was immense: for her partner, the hotel staff, the guests, and of course our entire team. Above all, we are deeply grateful to our colleague, who through his trained and courageous actions was able to prevent a tragedy.
Yes, security staff are trained for such situations – for example, as part of the GSSK qualification or as certified protection and security specialists. Topics such as de-escalation, psychological basics, communication in exceptional situations, and behavior in dangerous situations are integral parts of the training. But theory and practice often diverge. In such moments, it is not only knowledge that counts – but also intuition, empathy, and courage.
When life gets too heavy – help is available
Why people fall into such despair is often not obvious at first glance. Mental illness, personal crises, or professional overload can be triggers. That’s why it’s so important that we all go through life attentively, recognize the signals, and offer help.
If you or someone close to you is struggling with suicidal thoughts, there are professional support services. They are free, anonymous, and available 24/7.

Our conclusion
This incident impressively shows how important trained, composed, and compassionate action in security services is. Thanks to the courageous intervention of our employee, a human life could be saved – a moment that reminds us all how crucial attentiveness, empathy, and civil courage can be in everyday life.
